It’s Now official that the Disney and Fox deal is done. This was such an historic deal, worth over $52 billion, Disney has purchased 21st Century Fox’s film and TV studios. While the agreement is subject to the approval of antitrust regulators, the unbelievable acquisition will definitely reshape Hollywood as we know it!
What is Disney Acquiring in the Deal?
From Now Disney will take control of 20th Century Fox’s movie studio and the TV production division—20th Century Fox Television. Additionally, Disney will absorb Fox’s cable networks, which include FX and National Geographic.
Disney will also take ownership of the international networks that Fox owns or will own before the sale is complete, like Star TV and Sky. Disney also will gain a majority control of Hulu in the deal, as their interest will grow to 60% with the purchase of Fox.
Fox will maintain control of the Fox broadcast network, Fox Sports, Fox News and Fox Business brands. Last but not least, as part of the deal, Disney’s CEO Rober A Iger will hold off his retirement. He will stay on as CEO of the Walt Disney Company through 2021 to make sure the transition goes smoothly.
