All About Facebook’s New Algorithm: ONLY Good for friends & Influencers!

As A Kenyan Social media Marketer  and an online Entrepreneur I feel Happy and ready for the new Facebook Algorithm! For once Facebook has discovered that, The fact that them being a social site, its losing its meaning! Nowadays if you scroll through your  timeline you will see more Adverts, news and company profiles more than those of your friends. This happens due to the algorithm Facebook put in place back in 2016! Though it’s good for their business but they are losing it as a social media site, right now we can call it a News site!

On January 11th, Mark Zuckerberg (Facebook CEO)  announced that Facebook would be changing its news feed algorithm to prioritize content from “friends, family and groups.”

Zuckerberg wrote, “As we roll this out,You’ll see less public content like posts from businesses, brands, and media. And the public content you see more will be held to the same standard—it should encourage meaningful interactions between people.”

As a social media user, I think each of us Joined Facebook to Interact with real people,friends who are far, make new friends etc ! But right now Facebook’s Upside down Algorithm forces you to interact with more News channels and companies more than your friends!

Zuckerberg cites “ it’s our responsibility to make sure our services aren’t just fun to use, but also good for people’s well-being” as justification for the change, admitting that businesses are going to have to work harder than ever to gain their customers’ attention on the platform.

As the changes roll out over the next few months, businesses and media houses will most likely see a significant decrease in organic reach. Users will also probably spend less time on Facebook, though Zuckerberg hopes the time they do spend on the platform will be “time well spent.” This means news feeds will likely start to show more pictures of your Of your friend’s party, new house etc and  fewer Buzzfeed listicles.
