Zuckerberg seems to be trying to make things right with his New Year’s resolution. He makes a big one every year, previously having vowed to learn Mandarin thus acknowledging the rapid dominance that China was starting to enjoy in the world of tech and subsequently vowing to build the world’s very first home that would be completely managed by artificial intelligence.
This year his New Year’s pledge is to put himself out there more and hold a series of talks where he would discuss where tech is going to be headed in the future. This might not help Facebook save face but it is definitely a step in the right direction, and it is something that would allow a lot of people to take comfort in the fact that they no longer have to worry about the various things that might end up going wrong if technology were to run amok.
“I’m looking forward to another year of learning and personal improvement, and to discussing a lot of important questions with all of you!”, said Zuckerberg in a Facebook blog post.
It is important for industry leaders such as Mark Zuckerberg to come out and talk about what is happening so that they can be held more fully accountable for the consequences of their actions. This is going to be an interesting year, and time will tell what Zuckerberg’s talks consist of.
