The pay bill number used to facilitate the process of buying Airtel airtime from M-pesa is 220220. The method uses PesaPal, one of the popular payment platforms in Kenya. Below are the steps on how to do it:
- Go to the M-pesa Menu
- Select Pay Bill
- Enter Business No. 220220
- Enter Account No. AIRTXXXXXX (Where XXXXXX is your Airtel Mobile number)
- Enter the Amount
- Enter your M-Pesa PIN then send
Confirm the transaction through the page that pops up after accepting your purchase. Confirm that your transaction has gone through Pesapal, which is the company associated with pay bill number 220220. When the transaction goes through, you will receive the M-Pesa confirmation message and, subsequently, another confirmation from Airtel with a message from CHAPCHAP confirming of your successful airtime recharge.

What happens when I buy airtime for the wrong number?
Call the support team on 0706 191 729 or post your payment details to support.pesapal.com who will confirm if the airtime was successfully sent to the wrong number. If not, the airtime will be sent to the correct number. In the case that the airtime was successfully sent to a correct account, no refund will be done. You will be advised to contact the service provider.
If I buy excess airtime, can I get refund for the extra funds I used?
No reversal will be done if the airtime has been successfully sent.
